Extra Ordinary Ministry of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion fill a much needed service for the Parish. They assist with the distribution of the Eucharist at the weekend Masses, at daily Mass, at special liturgies, and holydays. They may also bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound offering spiritual nourishment and comfort during times of illness. The Extraordinary Ministers generally visit the homebound once a week. These visits make the parishioners feel connected as part of the Parish Community.
Candidates for this ministry must be baptized Catholics, over the age of 18 who are fully initiated into the church. They must be examples of Christian living in faith and conduct, registered members of St. Mark’s Church and be approved by the Pastor. They must attend a Diocesan training session and be commissioned at a special Mass before beginning their service.
To be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is a responsibility but also a great privilege and a very humbling experience.
